Interest and demand are high, but requirements and approval processes are becoming more complex. This is one of the reasons why extension has been stagnating for years. Yet it is precisely biogas, as base-load renewable resource, that is capable of compensating the fluctuating availability of energy sources such as sun and wind and that contributes to grid stability.<\/p>\n<p>However, the public EEG funding will end in the next few years for several biogas plants. As the 20 years old subsidy period is gradually coming to an end, decisions are to be made on how to further operate these plants from an economic point of view. \u201cIt is crucial for operators to start being preoccupied with utilization concepts in time. Fast pace is needed.\u201d, exhorts Mr. Kellermann, founder and Managing Director of greenValue GmbH in Nuremberg. \u201cIn 2024, 300 biogas plants installed in 2004 will require a follow-up regulation. In 2025, this number will rise to 600 for plants installed in 2005 and to 700 in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the energy transition, it is crucial to keep old plants and to make sure that the expertise hardly acquired over decades does not leave Germany.<\/p>\n<h4>What are the options for operators of old plants?<\/h4>\n<p>Daniel Kellermann: \u201cOur aim is to draw up future-orientated strategies that will allow to further operate a plant in a profitable way. We develop an overall plan in cooperation with our partners on a case-by-case basis\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This involves:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Options for flexibility<\/li>\n<li>Energy efficiency measures through targeted operational optimization<\/li>\n<li>Mobility: biogas for instance for the internal fleet and for a filling station<\/li>\n<li>Grid feed-in and bundled feed-in<\/li>\n<li>Use of captured CO2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We furthermore assist in the realization of PV facilities for power self-supply.
